Why Sequence Dance
In ordinary ballroom dancing the man leads his partner and chooses what steps they will perform - all couples on the floor are doing their own thing. In sequence dancing all couples do the same steps at the same time(HOPEFULLY) - something like formation dancing. This allows for more people on the floor at the one time as they move anticlockwise round the hall
The sequence for a dance like the October Waltz or Mahonia Foxtrot is16 bars in length. This is repeated several times during the course of the dance - If you watch carefully you can sometimes join in yourself - some people learn seque nce dancing this way.Far better to go to an experienced teacher and learn the basics first. You may find yourself doing
sequence dances based on the slow foxtrot, cha-cha-cha, mambo, or waltz if these come up in a session! All couples dance together in this way making the learning process easier - there is also a great feeling of common purpose. Everyone is working towards the same goal - to perform the sequence as well as possible and you can compare notes with others afterwards.
